Flooding in a tidal flood hazard area may be contributed to, or influenced by, stormwater runoff from inland areas, but the depth of flooding generated by the tidal rise and fall of the Atlantic Ocean is greater than flooding from any fluvial sources. Tidal Flood Hazard Area means a flood hazard area in which the flood elevation resulting from the two-, 10-, or 100-year storm, as applicable, is governed by tidal flooding from the Atlantic Ocean. This elevation, when combined with the “Freeboard”, establishes the “Regulatory Flood Protection Elevation”.īase flood elevation (BFE) means the elevation shown on the Flood Insurance Rate Map for Zones AE, AH, A1-30, VE and V1-V30 that indicates the water surface elevation resulting from a flood that has a 1-percent or greater chance of being equaled or exceeded in any given year.Īrea of special flood hazard means the land in the floodplain within a community subject to a one percent or greater chance of flooding in any given year.įloodplain or flood-prone area means any land area susceptible to being inundated by water from any source (see definition of “flood”).
